1, Before starting the course, what were your circumstances?

I was unemployed before starting my Infrastructure Specialist course with Netcom Training. I was looking online to see if I could find one to support my aspirations to become an IT technician or similar. I have wanted to do this for a long time, but it was too expensive for me to pay for myself to study for a qualification, particularly one recognised worldwide. There was also a doubt in my mind if I was clever enough to gain the technical knowledge and skills required to work in the industry.

2, What enticed you to study with us and what course did you complete?

When I started to look for courses, some of the ones advertised did not look legitimate, and I could not find more details about the providers. Also, it was not clear what type of courses and certification they provided. I found out about Netcom Training via social media. I checked the site and was very interested to learn that I could study a 12-week online tutor-led course that was fully funded and that I only needed an internet connection and a laptop or smartphone to access the training. I could choose between morning, afternoon and evening classes. My choice was the evening class because I have a 4-year-old daughter who needs my attention during the day. This is the beauty of online tutor-led training to have options to suit individual circumstances. The evening class started at 6 p.m. and finished at 9 p.m; from Monday to Thursday. I completed a short Cloud Fundamentals course to start with and then the 12-week Infrastructure Specialist course and was allowed to study for CompTIA qualifications in future, again fully funded, which is fantastic as they are recognised worldwide, and normally quite expensive.

3, How did you find the course?

My tutor was very helpful and answered every single question I asked throughout my learning which may have been easy for him but not easy for me and the other learners, most of us being newbies in the IT world. It was great to have support when needed. In the Infrastructure Specialist course, we studied 4 different units, each full of useful information whether we wanted to work in IT or just for our own knowledge and personal use of IT at home. Nowadays, as most of us have more smart technology, cyber-crimes are increasing so we have to learn how can we protect ourselves. This was particularly interesting to me and my tutor taught me techniques to reduce the risk of being an easy target for hackers or attacks to steal our data. I learnt how cloud computing works, mobile applications, various operating systems, hardware components and lots of technical knowledge and skills in general including troubleshooting and fixing faults. I also learnt the basics of how to build a computer and network.

4, Now you have completed your course what is next?

I am intending to apply for work in the IT industry but in the meantime, I have been given a great opportunity to work for Netcom Training in the short term to encourage more people to make use of the opportunities for learning and to support their career goals.

5, Do you have any advice/tips for anyone looking to study with us or looking for a career in the digital space?

Having completed the course myself I know how much knowledge and skills I have learned and I am very happy to recommend Netcom Training to anyone I speak to who has a keen interest in IT as a career or for their personal use. It has excellent tutors and the training is delivered in a fun and engaging way online with many flexible class options to suit individuals requirements. A lot of support is available and It’s great that the courses are fully funded too. I think that online sessions can be a great way of learning at one’s own pace as recordings are also available and anyone putting in the time and effort can gain certificates that are recognised by employers in the IT industry.

1, Before starting the course, what were your circumstances?

Before starting the course, I was unemployed and considering a career change. As I previously worked in sales as a Business Development Manager, I wanted to change career paths and explore other avenues.

With over 15 years of experience in sales, I felt I needed to retain to obtain new skills to increase my employability. As I have always had an interest in IT, I wanted to explore this sector further.

I enquired about the CSIS CompTIA course at Netcom Training. This course applied to me specifically because it is an accredited course and was all delivered online with a Live Tutor. As I haven’t had any previous experience in the IT sector before I thought this would benefit me greatly as I would be able to answer any queries, I may have in Real-time.

3, How did you find the course?

Initially, I found the course hard but the tutors were very understanding and patient throughout my time at Netcom. I was given one-to-one extra support and extra learning material to help me complete my CompTIA qualification. This helped me build my confidence and skill set to work in the IT sector. I found the online tutor-led classes beneficial as I was able to experience a classroom environment online and learn with other students.

After completing the course I was provided with job support from Netcom to help me obtain employment. Where they helped me update my CV and aided me through the job application process. This helped a lot as I was getting good responses from recruiters. Shortly after completing the course, I got offered a position working for Netcom training and as a Progression Administrator.
